Competition: Pop Art White Nancy

Congratulations Jude for winning January’s competition with her Rainbow of Bollington. Now we have a new challenge for you (and it has nothing to do with red, hearts, chocolate, or love). Well, unless you love Andy Warhol.

February’s competition combines the vibrance of Pop Art with Bollington’s biggest celebrity-err-folly: White Nancy!

Enter as many as you like in a comment below before March 1st, but make sure the width is no larger than 500 px (‘Medium’ size on Flickr). A guest judge will pick a short list of entries (one photograph = one entry) and selecting a winner.

You don’t need photoshop to play with your photographs! We’ll be sharing some more tips on how to access and use editing software later this month. But if you want more immediate help, why not drop by the Vale Inn on Thursday nights at 7 pm for our Photo-Surgeries? It will be hard to miss us, with our laptops, cameras, and pints of Stowford Press or Bollington Best. And my tap water. We’d love to help. Bring your photographs on a USB flash drive, a CD/DVD, upload them to flickr (and remember your password!) or email them to us.

Some contest guidance:

Where possible, provide a link to your original photograph so we can admire all the work you did! Remember to only use your own photographs of White Nancy, unless you have permission of the photographer to change/edit and submit to this competition. In that case, I kindly ask you to credit the original photographer in your submission as well.

Pop art can be quite varied — so be imaginative! We’d still like to see some of your photograph shine through, though, so you have a better chance of being shortlisted if you find some way of incorporating the style into your image (rather than turning your photograph into a painting). You may find that your final work departs from an existing pop art style and that’s okay! But if you are concerned people won’t ‘get it’, why not write what inspired you?

The selected winner will choose a prize from the current prize pool. Judges and previous winners are prohibited from winning at this time but not prohibited from sharing!
